Weight divisions used in Australia

 Divisions  Weight Categories (Kg) These weight categories are strictly enforced in titles and selections. In other situations the prime concern of the matching officials is minimising the weight difference between boxers.
 Males aged 17 and over  48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81, 91 & 91+
 Females aged 17 and over  46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 70, 75, 80 & 86
 All ages under 17  22-54 in 2kg increments, then 57, 60, 63, 66, 70, 75, 80 & 86

Age divisions (Male and Female) used in Australia

 Under 19 (Junior)  17 & 18 A junior can choose to box against a senior at any tournament.

Boxing SA State Championships Rules and Criteria

A Schoolboy boxer is a boxer who is 12, 13 or 14 years of age at the commencement of the State Championships. (Novice 0-5 bouts Open 6+ bouts)

A Cadet boxer is a boxer who is 15 or 16 years of age at the commencement of the State Championships. (Novice 0-5 bouts Open 6+ bouts)

A Junior boxer is a boxer who is 17 or 18 years of age at the commencement of the State Championships.

A  Senior boxer is a boxer who is 17 and under 34 years of age at the commencement of the State Championships.

A Master boxer is a boxer who is 34 years of age or older at the commencement of the State Championships.

Note: Up to and including the 46 kg division, rounds for the Schoolboy or Cadet boxers are 3 x 1½ Minute rounds.

All boxers must be registered and have completed their medicals at least 2 weeks prior to the State Championships commencing 6th & 7th of October 2007. Cut off date for all registrations, medical and nominations is at 5pm Monday the 24th of September 2007. 

Once a boxer has won a Novice Championships in any division they cannot compete as a Novice again. i.e. if you win a Cadet Novice Championship and still have competed in less than 5 bouts, a boxer cannot compete for a Senior Novice Championship.

To conform to Boxing Australia requirements, in the 2007 State Championships a boxer will be required to be an Australian Citizen to be eligible to represent South Australia at the 2007 Australian Championships.

A Boxer that is not an Australian Citizen is eligible to compete in the SA State Championships only under the following criteria.

  1. If the boxer that is not an Australian Citizen win his division at the SA State Championships then the boxer's that he has defeated during the competition will have the opportunity to challenge the eventual runner up for the right to be eligible for selection in the State Squad.
  2. The boxer that is not an Australian Citizen must be a resident of South Australia for the period of 3 months prior to the commencement of the SA State Championship and must have competed or a least nominated on a Boxing SA show during this period .
  3. Boxing SA Committee of Management reserves the right to review and change the above amended rule (a boxer who is not an Australian Citizen) in the event further detail is required.  

A boxer may compete in a higher class if he / she so desires, for example, a boxer who has had four bouts may compete in Open Class. A boxer CANNOT change categories by age i.e. under 17 to senior unless a birthday takes place between the 2007 State Championships and the 2007 Australian Championships. Also the tournament committee reserves the right to place a boxer in a higher class in special circumstances if it is considered that such actions is in the best interest of the tournament and the boxer.

A boxer that has a birthday between the 2007 SA State Championships and the 2007 Australian Championships may elect to go up an age division prior to the commencement of the SA State Championships to be eligible to compete in that age division at the Australian Championships. e.g. 16 years (Cadet) at the commencement of the SA State Championships turn 17 years (Junior) after the SA State Championships would need to compete as a junior at the SA State Championships to be eligible for the Australian Championships unless the division intending to compete in was vacant.     

Only boxers who win their nominated weight class will be eligible for selection in the State Squad who will be given priority for the 2007 Australian Championships to be held in Brisbane, Queensland from the 6th-9th of December 2007 provided they have been consistently available for local competition throughout the year and meet the requirements set out by the BSA committee of Management and State Coach.

A boxer who is unopposed will not be awarded a belt or medal unless the BSA Committee of Management determines the boxer is worthy of it i.e. nominated consistently throughout the year.

Important Points to Remember;

bulletA boxer MUST be clean-shaven on the morning of the weigh-in and medical. Shaving the night before is not acceptable.
bulletBoxers are required to wear either a RED or BLUE singlet depending on which corner they are boxing out.
bulletThe waistband of the shorts MUST be a contrasting colour to the RED or BLUE singlet i.e. RED singlet with RED shorts waistband will need to be white or another contrasting colour.
bulletFemale boxers must conduct a pregnancy test within three days of the time of the weigh-in and medical. Breast protectors are Mandatory. 
bulletBoxers are required to wear an AIBA approved head guard.

Weigh-in Rules and Criteria

BSA advises the weigh-ins for the 2007 State Championships will be held at -  Croatian Club, Gepps Cross.

The weigh-in and medical will commence on Saturday the 6th of October 2007 between 8.00 am and 10.00 pm, and will be between 8.00 am and 9.00 pm on the 7th of October 2007.

ALL nominated boxers must weigh-in and complete the medical on Saturday the 6th of October 2007 and then ONLY BOXERS competing on Sunday the 7th of October 2007 are required to weigh-in and complete the medical on that day.

The Draw will take place at 10.30 am on Saturday the 6th of October 2007 after the weigh-in and medicals have been completed. The 2 day program will be announced at the same time, i.e. who will box who and what day.       

BSA Committee of Management reserves the right to change these rules in line with Boxing Australia and AIBA rule changes from time to time.
